Michael Wurm - New photo sensors for the hybrid Cherenkov-scintillation detector Theia

RTG seminar on Wednesday, May 19th 2021

The next generation of neutrino detectors will need improved event reconstruction capabilities to further explore neutrino oscillations and astrophysical neutrino sources. Theia is a novel detector concept that aims at a hybrid read-out of Cherenkov and scintillation signals from neutrino interactions. Besides a very transparent scintillator medium, this new technique will crucially depend on the availability of fast and/or wavelength-resolving photo sensors. This talk will explore LAPPDs, Dichroicons and SiALGs as new photo sensors to discriminate scintons from chertons. It will highlight as well the added value that a hybrid optical detector module would bring to the long-baseline neutrino program of the DUNE experiment.
