Norbert Wermes - Monolithic Pixel Detectors exploiting CMOS Chip Technology
RTG seminar on November 3rd, 2021
Abstract
Using modern chip technology to advance the state of the art of pixel detectors for particle tracking and timing has been a field of intensive R&D in recent years that has attracted many groups. Difficulties in moving from “hybrid pixels”, the current state of the art, separating sensing and recording functions into dedicated parts of a pixel detector, to a monolithic approach employing advanced features of CMOS technology nodes, are abound. They concern the sensing of a particle passage as well as high-rate data recording, interplay and interference between electronics and sensing parts, and last but not least the radiation tolerance of the device. The talk will cover these aspects and how they have been addressed and will present some recent results.
